Visitors searching their roots or interested in studying the history of a particular town or locality in Louisiana will find the Library's Genealogy Department to be of valuable assistance. Located at our Main Branch, the Genealogy Department is considered one of the best of its kind in Southwest Louisiana. The collection is continuously being added to. Many genealogy databases are available through CD-ROMs.

Ancestry.com is a resource for family history online. The site offers thousands of fully searchable databases containing information on hundreds of millions of individuals. New databases are being added to the site each business day. By the end of 2000, the company expects to have over 1 billion records searchable on the site.

MyFamily.com is a password-protected community on the Internet for families. The site enables family members to communicate and share experiences with each other through free secure Web sites. Families can post family news, create family photo albums, hold live voice and text chats and maintain a calendar of family events. MyFamily.com also offers free online family history software that enables multiple family members to collaboratively update their family trees.
